Dear friends,

As we informed you before, a resolution proposed by MEHR regarding the observance of September 1 as the Memorial Day for the massacre of political prisoners that was approved at the Amnesty International Southern Regional Conference in October 2002 and will be discussed in the Annual General Meeting of the Amnesty International in April 2003.

To seek a wider recognition for this day, MEHR is also urging the United Nation to adopt September 1^st as a day of commemoration to acknowledge the bravery and sacrifice of political prisoners, freedom fighters and prisoners of conscience who were executed or massacred by their governments. To make this possible, please sign our petition in this regard at:
