MEHR-The victims of the Terrorism of Islamic Regime should be protected rather than persecuted
Dear friends,
Further to the letter that was sent to Attorney General, John Ashcroft on
12/17/02, the following letter was sent to President Bush regarding the
mistreatment of Iranians by the INS that has created an avenue for the Islamic
Regime and its supporters to divert attentions from the human rights violations
and the terrorist activities of the Islamic Regime..
The Persian translation of this letter may be viewed at the following link:

Dear Mr. President:
We would like to restate our position in supporting the fight against terrorism.
Although you have correctly characterized the Islamic Regime of Iran (IRI) as a
terrorist regime, and have made a clear distinction between the Iranian people
and this regime, this view does not seem to be fully reflected in the USA
foreign and domestic policies.
On foreign policy, we hear the very disturbing news about the negotiations
underway between the IRI and the USA authorities that involve Ayatollah Hakim.
These negotiations would somehow legitimize the IRI while discouraging the brave
Iranians who are struggling for freedom and democracy.
On domestic policies, the ill treatment and detention of many Iranian people by
the Immigration and Naturalization Service has given the Islamic Regime and its
supporters and lobbyists the opportunity to divert attention from the terrorism
and human rights violations committed by the IRI.
It is so ironic that while the representatives of the Islamic Regime of Iran (IRI),
a recognized terrorist regime, are welcomed to the U.S. and enjoy immunity, and
while many individuals and interest groups are openly lobbying for establishing
relations with this regime, the peaceful Iranian people are treated in such a
degrading manner.
Many Iranian immigrants have been the victims of terrorism and have escaped the
terror of the Islamic Regime of Iran with the hope of finding peace and security
in the USA. While the precautionary rules and regulations aimed clearly against
the terrorist activities of the Islamic Regime of Iran and their supporters and
agents are welcomed, the hardship inflicted upon innocent people should not be
allowed. We strongly believe that a clear foreign policy with respect to the
terrorism of the Islamic Regime of Iran will put an end to this unfair treatment
of Iranians and will have full support of freedom loving Iranians with respect
to implementation of necessary rules and regulations to fight terrorism.
We would like to see that your directives regarding the respect and support for
the Iranian people are observed across the board by the US authorities. Making a
clear distinction between the Islamic Regime and their victims is a necessary
step to fight the terrorism of the IRI against the Iranian people and the world
community. This would also prevent any deceitful attempt by the regime and its
supporters to sympathize with the Iranians for advancing their own interests.
We, together with all freedom loving Iranian/Americans would welcome and support
all the necessary measures that would prevent the terrorist activities of the
Islamic Regime.
Respectfully,
MEHR Iran
