MEHR-Aug 2,
2002-Protest the Legitimization of the Islamic Regime of Iran by AIC
Dear all,
While Iranian people who have been terrorized by the Islamic Regime of Iran
for the last twenty three years have not given up their hope and are
continuing
their struggle for freedom and democracy, an organization calling itself the
American Iranian Council (AIC) is openly promoting their abusers.
AIC, with its self-promoting and unprincipled thoughts and
actions, is not only
working against the will of freedom
loving Iranians; it is violating the US "Anti
Terrorism Act" that prohibits any sort of association with terrorists and
sponsors of terrorism.
AIC is the vehicle of a number of interest driven political figures and oil
company representatives to lobby for the unconditional re-establishment of
relations with the Islamic Regime of Iran, one of the most brutal regimes in
the world.
The following is an excerpt of the Washington Times editorial on April 4th
about AIC:
"......The designated vehicle for their campaign is an organization calling
itself
the American Iranian Council (AIC). The AIC's board of corporate "sponsors
and collaborators" includes prominent oil and gas companies that have been
effectively shut out of exploration in Iran as a result of U.S. economic
sanctions. The board includes representatives of energy firms such as ARCO;
Ashland Oil Inc.; BP; Chase Manhattan Bank; Chevron; Conoco Inc.; Exxon;
Shell, as well as George Soros' Open Society Institute. Its various boards of
directors include such luminaries as former Assistant Secretary of State
Robert Pelletreau; former Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala;
Democratic Party bigwig Sargent Shriver; Under secretary of State for
Political Affairs Thomas Pickering, now a vice president with Boeing Corp.;
Judith Kipper of the Center for Strategic and International Studies; and Gary
Sick, a former member of Jimmy Carter's National Security Council
staff......."
MEHR Iran would like to invite all Iranians to
participate in a peaceful
gathering on Saturday, August 3, 2002 in front of the Beverly Hilton Hotel at
9876 Wilshire Boulevard, Beverly Hills, CA 90210 at 2:00 PM, to protest
AIC's activities in legitimizing a
terrorist regime that has denied the basic rights
of Iranain people.
All concerned Iranains specially those who cannot participate in this event
are
encouraged to write to contact Senator Robert
Torricelli and Congressman
Howard L. Berman and urge them not to promote
AIC's activities.
Thank you.
