I posted the above article of Gardner last Tuesday 4/30/02 and basically
I agree with John W. Gardner on his views on Ethics and I think of
his book Self-Renewal as one of the best works written on Ethics:

Although this great book has been written by a Christian
author, it could have been written by a secular author.
The book is very valuable to understand how a dishonest
person can end up justifying the evil of Vevak torturing.
This is a real good book to read.  Although Scott Pecks
other book "Road Less Travelled" is famous, I have
found this book of his to be a real great contribution
to social thought to understand the fundamental
basis of dishonesty and evil deeds of the executioners
of Nazism, Communism, and Islamism.
